Venting: Civility isn't negotiable

Yesterday, on the heels of the murder of two Minnesota democrats in June, more political violence occurred in America. This is, unfortunately, only the latest example of what feels like an escalating frequency of violent, politically motivated outbursts, not always successful; but consistently corrosive; and of course, always used to advance political agendas.
I'm really bothered by all this, because I don't believe that our differences are irreconcilable, because if they are, the only way to end it is through mutual destruction– how else can irreconcilable differences be resolved? We'll literally have to either kill each other or enslave each other. Yet, and perhaps this is an illusion created by social media (and I do hope it is), it seems like many of us think that this is how it's gotta be– perhaps not realizing what the implications are of what they're saying? I don't know.
Maybe I've just watched too much Gundam or Star Trek, or possibly just have flushed too many chemicals through my body for recreational purposes, but it simply does not have to be this way.
